Position Title:     Bilingual Health Information Specialist
Organization:     Children and Adults with ADHD (CHADD), a 30-year-old national nonprofit HQ’ed in Lanham MD
Department:      National Resource Center on ADHD, a Cooperative Agreement Program with the CDC
Reports to:         Executive Director, National Resource Center on ADHD


Position Description: A key responsibility of the Bilingual Health Information Specialist at the National Resource Center on ADHD is to respond to English and Spanish language inquiries regarding information on Attention-Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder from parents, educators, healthcare professionals, adults with ADHD, and the public.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides timely, appropriate responses to inquiries received at the National Resource Center on all aspects of ADHD (inquiries are received via email, phone, online communities, and social media, among others). These requests seek either general or highly specific information about ADHD symptoms, diagnosis, treatment options, educational rights, community resources, etc. Communicates with compassion, patience and understanding to distressed callers.
    • Analyzes the nature of each request and determines how best to offer guidance in response to complex, multi-faceted questions;
    • Prioritizes the issues involved and determines which issue(s) is(are) most significant, given the limitations of one-time interactions.
    • Assesses and addresses underlying or non-spoken issues, especially those that may be highly emotional.
    • Assesses the inquirer’s ability to understand complex material in order to determine which information or resources to provide, that are both relevant and helpful.
    • Seeks to empower those who make inquiries by referring them to appropriate information or resources.
    • Maintains a record of all public inquiries in the designated database.
    • Maintains appropriate professional and ethical boundaries.
  • Compiles statistics, resources, and other data for dissemination and/or reports when requested.
  • Works with the NRC director in outreach efforts to the Latino/Hispanic population in particular, and other diverse or underserved communities as assigned.
  • Collaborates with NRC staff to develop and write content on designated topics for public dissemination.
  • Develops Spanish-language translations for NRC when needed.
  • Other duties as needed/assigned, such as:
    • Plan, host and record Ask-The-Expert webinars
    • Collaborate with other team members to execute a comprehensive social media strategy
    • Identify, reach out to, and collaborate with potential partners in underserved populations
    • Support resource requests from CHADD’s affiliated chapters from across the country
    • Identify and qualify ADHD resources throughout the country and add them to our resource directory
    • Assist with resource information updates.
    • Attend CHADD’s Annual International ADHD conference

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English. Must have bilingual fluency in both oral and written means of communication.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn about ADHD and disability issues in general.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to listen with empathy and share technical information with accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to understand, follow, and receive oral and written instructions and feedback.
  • Experience with current business communication processes, including style and format of letters and reports.
  • Excellent skills in a Microsoft environment, including knowledge of and familiarity with Microsoft Office software, with particular emphasis on, but not limited to Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Competence working with organizational databases, and proficiency with data input.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize work appropriately based on inquiry volume.

Education and Experience:

  • Masters degree in Social Work, or
  • Bachelors degree in Social Work with a minimum of 2-4 years of related experience.
  • Minimum of two years work experience. Experience in customer service or call center environment helpful.
  • Knowledge of or interest in ADHD, mental health or disability issues.
